GEOFF Metcalfe actor Ian Bartholomew has gone from soap villain to aspiring singer.

However, Britain’s Got Talent viewers were baffled when the former Coronation Street star didn’t make it through to the live shows.

But viewers were baffled when he was a no show

While he was living in the cobbles from 2018 to 2020, Ian Bartholomew was most commonly known by ITV viewers as Geoff Metcalfe, Yasmeen Nazir’s (portrayed by Shelley King) abusive husband.

Geoff was last seen alive on screens in a dramatic showdown on a Weatherfield rooftop with Yasmeen and fell to his death in December, 2020.

He then appeared in a posthumous vision in February, 2021.

Following his stint in the Manchester-based program, actor Ian Bartholomew kept a pretty low profile – until it was reported he would be auditioning for the 2022 series of Britain’s Got Talent.

In March, 2022, HOAR then confirmed that Ian had tried his luck in the competition with a song he had written and even made the judges, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams cry.

Ian was alleged to have performed a song written for domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid, titled This Time It’s Forever, and has starred in the music video for the track.

But as the series is already at the live show stage, ITV viewers have been surprised to see Ian is still a no show.

This prompted them to take to Reddit to voice their frustration.

“Was the actor who played Geoff Metcalfe appeared on Britain’s Got Talent yet?”, one viewer asked.

A second one replied: “I thought that I read that the actor went on stage and performed a song and the judges liked it. Has he been on it yet?”

A third viewer commented: “No, and since this week is the live semi-finals they’re obviously not showing him if he did.”

Another confirmed Ian hadn’t appeared on the show: “Definitely not!”

Introducing himself on stage for his audition, Ian said: “I am from Cheshire. I was in Coronation Street. I played nasty Geoff Metcalfe. He was a nasty piece of work. I started in 2018 and I fell off a roof in the show last year. I am 67.”

He then claimed he had written a song amid the first lockdown, when domestic abuse cases were soaring and three women were dying every two weeks.

“The song I am singing I wrote myself and was used in a campaign by Women’s Aid to raise awareness about domestic abuse. I am not here for me, I am here for the charity and the abused victims.”

Ian was praised by all four judges who gave him a yes but he also received some constructive criticism from Amanda Holden.

The actress believed it would “work much better” if Ian had some women appearing on stage with him to form a choir.
