THINGS are moving VERY fast between Kelly Neelan and Aadi Alahan and the lad’s father Dev doesn’t like what he sees.

But in tonight episode, after the Coronation Street shop owner attacked his son, the couple decided to elope in Scotland.

Aadi and Kelly were ready to make a good impression as they made their feelings known

While their romance started off as a way for them to get a free holiday as a fake engaged couple, Kelly and Aadi have been caught up with their feelings.

Tonight, the teens – portrayed by Adam Hussain and departing actress Millie Gibson – made the decision to leave the cobbles altogether to get married in Scotland – where they won’t need anybody’s approval to make it official.

The pair met in the Roy’s Rolls café and Kelly made the suggestion after checking nobody was around to listen to their conversation.

“What would you say if I told you there was still a way we could get married without anyone’s permission?”, she first asked Aadi.

Kelly then revealed they had the option to elope to Gretna Green, “the closest Scottish village.”

Although seemingly hesitant, Aadi agreed as the episode ended.

Corrie viewers have since been left scratching their heads over on social media.

One wrote: “Oh no come on Aadi and Kelly…#CoronationStreet”

Another posted: “Naughty Dev! How could you even consider getting between love’s young dream? Aadi and Kelly are clearly made for each other.”

A third added: “Eloping is not the answer. #CoronationStreet”

Minors can not legally get married in the UK without parental consent but, in Scotland, marriage is legal at 16 without a guardian’s permission but this could soon change.

But while Kelly and Aadi may believe they’ve found the perfect way to say “I do” without anybody stopping them, at the ripe ages of 17 and 16, rules in Gretna Green require that a couple wishing to elope there will need to wait 29 days for their wedding arrangements to be finalised.

This is to allow Registrars to check all documentation and draw up a marriage schedule.

The couple made the move after Kelly encouraged Aadi to stay with her, Gary and Maria – due to a heated argument with his father.

The teens were asked for proof they were of legal age to get married for the Gazette competition they’d entered – meaning they knew their families had to be made aware of their plans.

And when Aadi’s father Dev Alahan (played by Jimmi Harkishin) caught the pair kissing, they knew they had to, at the very least, come clean about their budding feelings.

Dev isn’t Kelly’s biggest fan but while he made his aversion very clear to both her and his son, the wayward teen swallowed her pride and invited him to join them for dinner at the Bistro.

Once there alongside Gary Windass, Nina Lucas and Aadi’s twin sister Asha, Dev got the shock of his life when Maria Connor revealed the local gazette made Aadi and Kelly’s engagement one of their headlines.

Kelly and Aadi were just as stunned as they believed they had a week before their commitment became public knowledge in the Gazette.

As Dev and everyone else tried to talk some sense into them, speaking of premature marriages and being of legal age to get married, Kelly and Aadi insisted they were in love and ready to sign a document to prove it.

Dev eventually stormed out of the restaurant and his anger escalated in later scenes, particularly after he found out Kelly had stolen and crashed Aadi’s new car.

Gary paid Dev a visit to talk about Kelly’s engagement to Aadi and, as the teen tried to leave No.7, the Corner shop owner tried to hold him back.

Sadly, Aadi was pushed into a wall… and his nose was left bleeding profusely.

Aadi stormed out, warning Dev he would not be coming back and he stood his ground as Kelly tended to him at No.5 Victoria Court.

Dev apologised but the harm was done – Aadi refused to hear him out and sent him his way.

Soon after, Kelly suggested Aadi should move in with her, Maria, Connor and Liam until they found a place of their own.

But will the star-crossed lovebirds really elope?

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7.30pm on ITV.
