But what will she be up to in the cobbles?
After taking to the stage where she successfully made a name for herself, Jodie Prenger is getting ready to settle into Weatherfield.
The 43-year-old will be making her ITV debut as George Shuttleworth’s sister Glenda in upcoming scenes of the Manchester-based show.
Jodie takes her upcoming stint in Weatherfield highly seriously due to her family’s bond with the iconic soap.
“My family are all from Manchester, all from Moss Side”, she told HOAR.
But while she may have grown up with stories of the cobbles, Jodie’s family shares an unexpected connection with late actress Patricia Phoenix.
“We used to have a laundrette and a café and grocery. My nan’s brother used to deliver Pat Phoenix’s groceries”, Jodie added.
“My nan worshipped Elsie Tanner – sorry, I can’t talk about my nan without crying.”
“I think when your family have loved something for so long, it genuinely is an honour to be part of an institution and a family – that’s genuinely what it’s felt like coming in.”
“It’s just a big lovely family. It’s very, very special.”
Pat took on the role of Elsie Tanner from Corrie’s first ever episode and became one of British TV’s first sex symbols.
The soap stalwart left the show in 1983 and her last scenes were aired in January, 1984.
Pat Phoenix passed away from lung cancer in 1986 at the age of 62 years old.
Meanwhile, her character died in 1987 and mysteriously resurrected to cut all ties with Weatherfield and moved to Portugal, where she died a second time in 2004.
As mentioned above, Jodie will be taking on the role of cruise worker Glenda who rocks up on the Street to pay her brother George a visit – and to run away from someone she’s had an affair with.
Next week, George (played by Tony Maudsley) has a painful toothache which prompts him to take some of Eileen’s painkillers.
The undertaker shows up to a funeral as high as a kite and, to avoid further disaster, Todd Grimshaw shoves him into one of the funeral cars.
Glenda later makes her entrance and saves the day.
But what will she be up to?
