CORONATION Street aired a shocking exit as Damon Hay was forced to flee Weatherfield after a revenge twist.

ITV viewers have seen the truth about Damon and Sarah Barlow’s affair unravel and Adam’s anger and jealousy was taken to new heights in the latest episode.

Adam, played by Sam Robertson, became hooked on tearing Damon down and so sought out one of his old acquaintances in the hopes of teaching Damon a lesson or two.

Damon warned Sarah about Adam before leaving

After DeeDee failed to help him, he turned to Paul, knowing that he had a run-in with Damon and his associates in the weeks previous.

From here, Adam was able to discover the identity of Niall – someone that Damon had previously warned that you don’t mess with.

In secret, Adam arranged a meeting with Niall and told him a pack of lies that Damon was planning to hand him into the police in order to get a lighter sentence for another ‘crime’.

Despite being hesitant, Adam forced Niall to believe him and it was not long until he and his cronies had waged war on Damon.

Feeling smug, Adam told Damon about his lies and ignored his demands to tell Niall the truth.

It left Damon no option but to flee Weatherfield for good, knowing that he was being hunted down.

Having collected his things from the Bistro, he left a voicemail for Sarah before heading off into the distance – unaware that she was currently enjoying a saucy clinch with Adam.

Damon said in the message: “Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what Adam is capable of.

“Take care Sarah and mind yourself with him.”

He then sped away in his car as the Happy Mondays track Step On played out.

Fans were in shock at his sudden exit.

One penned: “Well that was unexpected.”

Another added: “Can’t believe Damon left, wow.”

While a third said: “Was definitely not expecting that!!”
