Back in 2022, he told how he had penned a fresh contract lasting until this year.

Now Tony – who played hairdresser Kenneth du Beke in ITV comedy Benidorm – has taken to his Twitter to announce another year-long extension.

Alongside a clip of his Coronation Street character tending to Eileen, who had been knocked out on the floor in front of Gail Platt, Tony wrote on Twitter: “I only told her I’d signed a new contract and this is what happens!

“I thought she’d be pleased! #RUDE That’s George keeping Eyelash on her toes until at least July 2024 and I couldn’t be happier.”

His co star Liam McCheyne, who plays Dylan Wilson, cheerily replied: “YESSSS Uncle George stays!!”

Tony quipped back: “I’ll have you carrying coffins the minute you turn 16.”

The actor’s loyal fans were just as chuffed, with one writing: “Woohoo!! Congrats Tony!! They are SO lucky to have you!!”

Another put: “That’s brilliant news so happy for you, and so well deserved,” as a third wrote: “Great news. Love the Grimshaws extended modern family unit too. You all work so well together and make us all laugh. Much needed in these uncertain times.”

Previously, Tony told of his long-spanning working relationship with Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen.

Tony said: “Me and Sue were married about 20 years ago in a show called City Central.

“When I went for the part Sue very kindly came in and read with me and we had an instant connection.

“When we worked together 20 years ago we got on so so well and that spark was absolutely still there.

“I felt it, Sue still felt it and the casting director and the producer felt it because they said, ‘I think we’ve found our George’.”

HOAR on Sunday revealed earlier in 2020 how Tony had joined the soap but that the pandemic had delayed his debut.

Tony’s happy news came after Corrie welcomed another Benidorm star onto the cobbles last year.

Viewers were delighted to see Derren Litten make a cameo in March.

Meanwhile, Tony has starred in many TV shows including Doc Martin, Miss Marple and Ordinary Lives.

He also has a variety of film credits to his name, including Sleepy Hollow where he played Van Ripper and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, playing Grawp, Hagrid’s giant brother.
