Coronation Street Star's Business Falls on Hard Times

Simon Gregson, known for his role as Steve McDonald in Coronation Street, has seen his media firm, Simon Gregson Productions Ltd, go into liquidation owing £165k. Despite earning millions over his 34-year career on the popular soap, the pandemic has taken a toll on his business.

Debt Breakdown

The company owes £125,002 to HMRC, £35,000 to Coutts Bank for a Covid bounce back loan, and £5,002 to trade and expense creditors. Additionally, Simon owes his own firm £252,824 in the form of a directors loan.

Uncertain Financial Future

As the liquidators work through the company's finances, it remains uncertain how much of Simon's loan will be realized. Currently, the business only has £6,000 in cash to repay the debt.

Successful Stint on I'm A Celebrity

In 2021, Simon participated in the reality show I'm A Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here and reportedly earned £250k for his appearance. He mentioned in an interview that he took on the show for the money, which he compared to a "solid gold diamond goblet."

Cafe at Risk of Closure

In addition to his business struggles, Simon and his wife Emma's cafe, located at a garden center in Cheshire, is at risk of being closed down. Despite their efforts to campaign against the proposed demolition of Morley Nurseries, which houses their tea room, the plans for new homes have been approved.

Quaint Cafe Preserved for Now

Although the plans for new homes have been given the green light, a nursery manager assured customers that the garden center is not closing in the foreseeable future. Emma, who took over the cafe last year, had always dreamed of running her own tea shop.
