Normal Childhood Despite Soap Stardom

A dad from Leeds, Chris Flanagan, has shared what it's like being the parent of three soap stars. Flanagan and his wife Rachel have insisted that they did not pressure their kids into joining the cast of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. Their children, Amelia, Isabella, and William, have been acting in the shows for around two-thirds of their lives, but their childhood has been kept as normal as possible.

Education Remains a Priority

Despite their acting careers, education remains a priority for the Flanagan family. Chris ensures that if the child stars are on set in the afternoon, they still attend school in the morning. Additionally, if they finish filming earlier in the day, family members or friends will make sure they get back to class. The school is supportive and provides tutors on set to ensure they keep up with their studies.

Treasured Roles

Amelia, 15, was the first in the family to get a role and joined Emmerdale as April Windsor at the age of five. Four years later, twins Will and Bella were cast as Corrie cousins Joseph Brown and Hope Dobbs. Their mom, Rachel, jokes that while they play brilliant characters, their on-screen personas are totally different from their real-life personalities.

Handling the Demands of Soap Filming

It has taken some adjustment for the family to adapt to the demanding filming schedules, with shoots sometimes starting as early as 6 am. However, the Flanagans are proud of how well their kids handle the workload. Soap filming requires stamina, determination, and patience, as they often film multiple scenes in a day.

Overall, the Flanagan family is grateful for the opportunities their children have had and are excited to see where their acting careers take them in the future.
