EastEnders has officially announced the return of character Penny Branning, who has been absent from the show for 15 years. The rising star Kitty Castledine will be taking on the role of Jack Branning's daughter, and interestingly, she happens to have a very famous mum, Lucy Alexander, who is the host of Homes Under The Hammer.

Penny Branning returns to Walford with cousin Lauren

After spending 15 years abroad, Penny Branning is making her way back to Walford. Living in France with her mother Selina, Penny has had a strained relationship with her father, Jack. Now, she is set to join her cousin Lauren in Albert Square. The question remains, what brings these two back to Walford?

Kitty Castledine cast as Penny in her first major television role

Kitty Castledine, a rising star who recently graduated from the London Academy of Music and Drama (LAMDA), has been cast as Penny in her first major television role. Kitty expressed her excitement, saying, "I didn't expect to start my EastEnders journey so soon out of drama school – I can't actually believe it! The inclusion of disabled talent on screen is so important to me as a wheelchair user, so I'm thrilled to be playing a character as feisty and cool as Penny. She's thrown into the middle of the drama straight away, and I can't wait to see what she gets up to."

Delighted mum Lucy Alexander shares the news

Lucy Alexander, known for her role as the host of Homes Under The Hammer, shared her excitement about Kitty's casting. Lucy, who is married to ex-Premier League footballer Stewart Castledine, wrote, "It's been quite a week in my household… #proudmum."

Returning to Albert Square with cousin Lauren

Kitty's character, Penny, will be arriving in Albert Square alongside her cousin Lauren, played by Jacqueline Jossa. Penny's storyline will revolve around her struggles with her father, Jack, and her life in France with her mother, Selina.

A new chapter for Penny Branning

Penny Branning, previously played by Mia McKenna-Bruce, is set to make a comeback after a 15-year absence. EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw commented, "It's been a long time since Penny Branning was in Walford, and she's a very different person from the one our viewers might remember. Kitty is a terrific addition to the show, and we're looking forward to seeing Penny back in Albert Square."

Lucy Alexander couldn't be prouder of her daughter's achievement.
