FORMER EastEnders star Josephine Melville has passed away backstage during a theatre performance, her agent has confirmed.
The actress is renowned for starring on EastEnders as Tessa Parker, the girlfriend of Kelvin Carpenter, in 1986.
She was performing in a play at Nottingham Playhouse.
Ex-Corrie star Denice Welch tweeted: “So so sad. A wonderful actress”.
Singer and songwriter Lorraine King wrote: “Terrible news to hear of the sudden death of Josephine Melville. Amazing energy for the East Beach festival and an inspiration for the creative arts here in Southend. Thoughts are with her family and friends.”
