EMMERDALE fans were left open-mouthed after recognising prison officer star Dean Smith from Waterloo Road during Monday night’s episode.
The latest instalment of the Yorkshire-based soap saw Meena Jutla – who is awaiting her murder trial – flirting with the new prison guard.
Commenting, she gushed: “Oh! That’s more like it. You’re a vast improvement on Officer Redwood. I’m a sucker for a pretty boy!”
The new prison officer was left both flattered and confused as he warned: “You’re not allowed to talk to me like that!”
With Meena smirking as she performed a series of stretches as she replied: “Sorry!”
Viewers were soon left distracted by the scenes as they instantly recognised Dean Smith – and they quickly took to Twitter to share their excitement.

Alongside an emoji of a shocked face, one person penned: “I’m a bit late with this, but was that prison guard who spoke to Meena the same guy who played Phillip Ryan in Waterloo Road?”
Responding to their question, someone replied: “You’re on the money. That’s Phillip Ryan from Waterloo Road.”
A third shocked viewer exclaimed: Oh my! That security guard was Phillip in Waterloo Road.”
Dean has been in a number of other big shows too, including Doctors, Snatch, and soaps Hollyoaks and Coronation Street.
He more recently appeared in Last Tango in Halifax and Still Open All Hours.
In upcoming scenes, Meena is determined to walk free from her crimes and put on a show in court amid her murder trial.
While her sister Manpreet Sharma decides to make a huge U-turn and face her fears as she vows to testify against her sibling in court after accepting lawyer Ethan Anderson’s help.
