Taking to Twitter, David, 60, explained he is currently spending the coronavirus lockdown at a rehab clinic in Kent.
He wrote: “Forgive Me, last message, as I only have use of my phone for a few hours.
“I’m in lockdown in a rehabilitation home in Kent, which treats substance abuse and Alcoholism, I’ve been an Alcoholic for over twenty years. I’m safe and making progress, thank You Friends Always.”
The actor later thanked followers for their kind messages, saying: “I’d forgotten how Twitter can be so Amazing!! Thank You with all my heart, for all your Messages of Support, you’re Awesome!!!”
David’s celebrity friends were quick to comment their support.
Tamzin Outhwaite wrote: “Good luck.”

While Eastenders star Tanya Franks added: “David, it’s been 17 years since we worked together or had contact. I’m so glad to read your message and sending you strength. Stay safe, keep well, and continue to be brave – you can do this!”
Last year, David opened up on his 20-year battle with clinical depression.
He said: “I apologise for some of my tweets. I suffer from clinical depression. I was diagnosed 20 years ago – it’s a battle. It’s a battle I’m going to win, it’s a war I’m going to win.
“You’ve got to do more. Embrace it more, care about it more and love more. Because with love you can do anything.”
David’s final scenes on the soap aired last year.
His character was bumped off by serial killer Breda McQueen, who is played by Moya Brady, after she poisoned his lasagne.
