HOLLYOAKS’ Mercedes McQueen will be left fighting for her life in a coma for three weeks after she’s shot, according to actress Jennifer Metcalfe.
The actress opened up about the fate of her character as she becomes the centre of a whodunnit storyline.
While she reassures fans Mercedes has enough lives to survive the gun wound, the beloved character will be out of commission for a while.
Speaking to The Sun Online about the story, she said:“[Mercedes will be in a] coma for 3 weeks. After these epic monologues I lay in a bed for 3 weeks, doing too much internet shopping.
“Nothing long-term but its a turning point in her life. Shell have to think about her life, someone was prepared to shoot her a lot has gone on this year.
“There should be a gear change after this, when that much happens it’s got to have after effects.
“She needs to take a serious look at herself for once. [She] does it now and again but sustains it only for a short period of time.”
Mercedes will be shot in the middle of The Loft’s dance floor, with seven suspects in the frame.
Her husband Sylver, betrayed friend Diane Hutchinson, lover Liam Donovan, frenemy Grace Black, vengeful lawyer James Nightingale, serial killer mum Breda and secretive Joel Dexter are all under suspicion.
Mercedes will get involved with a row in the Dog In The Pond, before moving onto Hollyoaks’ nightclub – where she will be shot by one of her many enemies.
Speaking about the suspects, Jennifer continues: “Lesser motives for me, but that could be more of a reason to choose a dark horse, are Diane and Joel.
“Everyone else has a solid motive. Someone needs to stop Mercedes, I get it. When [series producer] Bryan Kirkwood said it I was like about bloody time swanning round, someone should do it.
“Its the right time, all the suspects are perfect Breda, Mercedes has been treating her boy pretty wrong. And shes a serial killer so just do it!
“Sylver, shes really betrayed [him], and Liam. Love is a perfect motive.”
She also reassured fans that Mercedes – who she has been playing since 2006 – has a lot more fight left in her yet.
The actress continued: “Shes got about 9 lives, shes only used about 7 so weve got a couple to go.
“I trust Bryan, if he thought that was the end of Mercedes and it was the right decision for the show, that would be fine. But I wasnt worried.”
