Soap Receives Backlash

ITV's Emmerdale is facing criticism for its recent shock death storyline, which fans claim has 'ruined' two legacy characters.

Traumatic Start to the Year

The soap started off the year with the death of teenager Heath Hope in a car crash. Heath, along with his twin sister Cathy and their friend Angelica King, stole Wendy Posner's car to attend a house party in a neighboring village.

Blame Game

After the accident, Cathy was initially blamed for driving the car out of the village. However, she insisted it was Angelica who had been behind the wheel.

Admission and Fan Outrage

In recent episodes, Angelica finally admitted that she was the one driving. However, some Emmerdale fans are not happy with the storyline and feel that it has 'ruined' the two legacy characters.

Fans Speak Out

One fan on a forum expressed their concern, saying, "The producers wouldn't want to ruin legacy characters by blaming Angelica and Cathy for Heath's death. It would be a constant reminder for them every year on the anniversary."

Another fan argued that other legacy characters have done worse things and escaped punishment, saying, "Plenty of legacy characters have done worse and got off scot-free. How many legacy characters are wandering around the village when they should be jailed?"

A third fan criticized the actress playing Angelica and expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of the storyline, stating, "I'm just not happy with the direction this storyline is going. They have already had Cathy say something like 'and now Heath is dead because of… her!!' No Cathy, he is dead mostly because of you."

Future Speculation

Speculation among fans suggests that Angelica may be sent to jail for her role in the accident and return to the show years later as a troublemaker, causing problems for Jimmy and Nicola.

Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
