SURANNE Jones is set to make an epic return to our screens in a new ITV drama about two sisters rocked by a devastating tragedy.

The BAFTA award winning actress is due to play lead role Becca in show, Maryland, crafted by American screenwriter Anne-Marie O’Connor.

The actress is set to return to screens in Maryland later this year
Suranne is well-known for playing lead Gemma in drama Doctor Foster

Suranne, 43, who rose to fame as Coronation Street’s Karen McDonald, will bring to life one of the two sisters in the drama.

The siblings have been torn apart by tragedy throughout their lives, but the storyline sees them “learning to love one another all over again”.

Maryland will look into the family’s complex dynamics – which are only made more difficult when a body is found at the local beach.

Sisters Becca and Rosaline are devastated to find out the older woman found on Laxey Beach, the Isle of Man, is their mother.

The pair grow closer as they deep dive into their parent’s double life, which saw their mum move away to create a new life for herself.

Confined to the island with only each other for company, the sisters are forced to club together to uncover their mother’s secrets.

Maryland is screenwriter Anne-Marie’s first UK drama – following the success of her American comedy series Trollied and Hullraisers.

The drama will see Doctor Foster star Suranne return to TV screens across three exciting episodes, much to the delight of her fans.

She said of the new project: “Maryland delves into family dynamics and the way in which we ‘label’ each other – sometimes never letting ourselves or our siblings break free from our roles.

“We look at how we grow apart from one another and how sometimes, we don’t really know anything about the people we call our own.”

The actress concluded that she was “thrilled” to be telling the “funny, uncomfortable and sometimes difficult story” across three hour-long episodes.

Maryland is yet to have a set release date – though ITV have confirmed that filming will commence later this year following further casting.
