GAMERS can get a unique digital experience this weekend to celebrate the Coronation with a new AR app that lets you see the Crown Jewels in your living room.

Atlantic Productions, in conjunction with Sky News, have created an AR experience that lets people see a 1:1 scale digital version of a number of Crown Jewels using their smartphones.

Pokémon GO is one of the most famous uses of AR technology

People who download the Sky News app will be able to place a digital replica of King Charles’ Coronation Crown anywhere in their living space.

The app will also feature the Queen Consort’s Crown after it’s revealed, which is a remodeled version of Queen Mary’s Crown.

Users of the app will be able to interact with the digital crowns through their phones, and look up close to see fine detailing of gold and precious stones.

There’s also said to be details of the crowns’ history and craftsmanship, making it a must-see experience.

The app also features exclusive macro footage of other significant Crown Jewels, including the Sword of Offering, the Sovereign’s Sceptre, and more.

Augmented reality, or AR, apps typically use depth-sensing technology to calculate the open space in a particular area.

It then uses cameras on a device to digitally place objects into the space, approximating their size in relation to the real world.

One of the most famous uses of AR is in Pokémon GO, which was developed by Niantic and released in 2016.

The game was an instant success, and put a lot of eyes on AR technology, which has seen much wider adoption in the years since.

Niantic has since released a number of games utilising AR technology, leveraging IPs like Harry Potter to create unique AR experiences.

The technology has also been used for educational purposes, with museums, art galleries, and even schools starting to use AR tech to create interactive experiences.
