Stay alert to the power light on your PlayStation 5 console as it holds the key to understanding its status.

With at least seven different "light codes," the colors and transitions of the light indicate what's happening with your console.

These light indicators, known as the power indicator, are the LEDs that light up the exterior of your PS5.

Let's break down what each light code signifies, according to Sony.

PS5 Light – Solid White

A solid white light indicates that your PlayStation console is powered on.

If you're not getting a display, it could signal an issue like being on the wrong TV channel or having a loose HDMI cable connection.

PS5 Light – Blue Transitioning to White

This transition signals that your PS5 is currently powering on.

If your console was completely powered off, expect a slightly longer startup compared to launching from Rest Mode.

PS5 Light – Blinking White, Solid Blue, or Blinking Blue

When you see this combination, it usually means that the console is frozen.

Sony suggests unplugging the console for 60 seconds and then plugging it back in to attempt a restart.

If the issue persists, you might need to follow steps to reboot the console in Safe Mode.

PS5 Light – Blinking White Then Off

This light pattern indicates that the console is being powered off completely, not entering Rest Mode.

In this state, your PS5 won't charge your DualSense controller or download software updates in the background.

PS5 Light – Solid Orange

A solid orange light signifies that your PS5 is in Rest Mode.

Sony explains that Rest Mode is a low-power state where your console can charge controllers and download/install content.

To wake the console from Rest Mode, hold down the PS button on a USB-connected or previously-paired controller.

PS5 Light – Blinking Orange

When the light blinks orange, your console is transitioning into Rest Mode.

This is different from the blinking white light that indicates the console is shutting down.

After a few moments of blinking, you should see a solid orange light confirming that your PS5 is in Rest Mode.

PS5 Light – No Colour

If the light displays no color, your PS5 is completely powered off with Rest Mode inactive.

In this state, your PS5 won't charge controllers or download content in the background.
