THE Masked Singer is returning to TV tonight – with 12 new celebrities hidden behind masks for us to guess.

The fourth series of the much-loved ITV competition, which is due to air its first episode on New Year’s Day, even features a celeb duo to be guessed by fans.

Monster kept fans guessing throughout the series
It was later revealed to be Cee Lo Green

However, while fans and the judging panel are busy guessing every series – not all the celebrities identities are foiled before they are revealed and unmasked.

Some of the stars make it all the way to the end of the competition keeping their true identity hidden.

And with that – there’s often surprises during the unmasking of the show, with jaw-dropping reveals of major celebs.

From Cee Lo Green to Ne-Yo, we look back at some of the most shocking show revelations over the years.

Cee Lo Green as Monster

Back in 2020, big, cuddly and furry character Monster hit the screens – wowing fans at home with his impressive voice.

And while he was foiled by fans – who took to Twitter in their masses to unmask the star as Cee Lo Green – the judging panel struggled to work him out.

Despite his distinctive singing voice, their guesses were way off, with Jonathan Ross adamant the star was Noel Fielding.

When the Forget You singer was unmasked, he left the panel and the live studio audience in a stunned silence.

“I can’t believe that you are here, this is so awesome,” Rita Ora could be heard saying as Cee Lo, 47, was unmasked.

“I’m a fan,” Cee Lo said of the show. “I got the chance to sing some classic songs that I loved so much growing up.”

Many fans were confused about Viking

Morten Harket as Viking

Norwegian heartthrob Morten Harket was revealed to be underneath the mask of Viking back in 2021.

The A-Ha star had the judges and fans at home fooled throughout, as they were confused by his identity clues.

Morten, 63, even performed one of his own songs, Take On Me, as a double bluff on the judges in a shock move.

When he was unmasked, he left the panel completely dumbfounded, as Alan Carr screamed in shock.

“Are you kidding me?!” Davina McCall said, while Rita, 30, covered her mouth and said: “Oh my god, I’m speechless.”

Bush Baby turned out to be John Thompson

John Thompson as Bush Baby

Bush Baby had fans and the judges confused for many episodes of the competition, due to a number of cryptic clues.

The mystery star even put on a fake Australian accent to throw everyone off – and it worked a treat.

Making it far into the competition, with fans rooting for Bush Baby to win, it took a while for John Thompson to be unmasked.

The actor and comedian, who starred in Cold Feet and Coronation Street, made it down to the final eight.

John, 53, even managed to fool his old pal Jonathan, 62, who he had worked with on a number of comedy shows.

As he removed the mask, he laughed while comedian Mo Gilligan shook his head saying: “That is a good one man.”

Badger made it through to the final two in 2021

Ne-Yo as Badger

While Cee Lo Green was on major pop star who graced the show – he wasn’t alone in being the only major hitmaker.

After seven weeks of viewers desperately trying to figure out the identity of Badger, he was unmasked as a major R&B star.

Ne-Yo shocked everyone apart from guest judge Nicola Roberts, who managed to foil his identity.

The singer made it to the final of the competition before losing out to co-star Sausage as he was unmasked.

Ne-Yo, 43, who is best known for his track Miss Independent, had the audience screaming and jumping at his reveal.

“Grammy award winner and Hollywood actor, Ne-Yo,” host Joel Dommett said, almost in disbelief, as he took off his mask.

Sausage had fans guessing for seven weeks of shows

Joss Stone as Sausage

Badger missed out on the top spot of the competition thanks to singing sensation Sausage, who kept fans guessing.

Taking part in the second series of the show in 2021, fans and judges alike were totally convinced the star was Sheridan Smith or Stacey Solomon.

They couldn’t work out the distinctive tone in the character’s voice, or their accent – which they thought could be fake.

While Rita and Jonathan were sure it was a TV star, the masked celebrity turned out to be soul singer Joss Stone.

She managed to go totally undetected by the judges through the whole series and win the Masked Singer title.
