GARDEN furniture and paddling pools pose a fire risk during hot weather, a housing association has warned.

Officials have told tenants to keep their yards clear of chairs, tables, parasols and pools as they could burst into flames.

Even sheds, screens, basketball nets and fake grass are deemed dangerous as temperatures soar across Britain.

And the hazards are apparently so severe residents require special permission to keep items up.

A letter sent out from Apna Ghar, which manages 300 properties for disabled people across London, read: “It is your responsibility to have your back garden clear of all items which may cause fire safety risks.

“This includes storage units, sheds, AstroTurf, basketball nets, BBQ units, bamboo screens, flammable garden seating and furniture etc.”

The association even sent agents to visit households to take photos of potentially flammable objects.

One family said their paddling pool and parasol were snapped during an inspection before being told they must seek authorisation to use them.

Brian Leveson, who lives in an Apna Ghar-managed three-bedroom maisonette with his civil servant wife Suzanne and their two children, now fears they won’t be able to cope when the mercury tops 30C this week as they will have no way to cool off.

The 54-year-old NHS manager, from Tottenham, north London, told MailOnline: “Our house was getting to temperatures of above 30C, and our son has brain damage and is particularly at risk of seizures in the heat.

“I got heat stroke as well and had to get in the bath to cool down. That’s why we bought the paddling pool.

“But they’re telling us we can’t take simple measures in the garden without their approval.

“Even our two fabric deck chairs aren’t allowed either.

“These garden rules, supposedly for fire safety, are putting lives at risk.”

Brian, father to Zack 17, and 18-year-old Dottie, added: “If they think a paddling pool full of water could be flammable, does that mean my wife’s knickers on the washing line are flammable?”

Seconds Away has approached Apna Ghar for comment.

Temperatures are expected to climb this week, peaking in the low to mid-30s come Saturday.

While forecasters say it is unlikely to beat the record-breaking highs during last month’s heatwave, the warm weather will stick around for more than a week.
