Doctor Who legends Captain Jack Harkness and River Song to finally meet in spin-off series

TWO of Doctor Whos most beloved names are about to see their worlds collide.

Captain Jack Harkness, played by John Barrowman and River Son, played by Alex Kingston, will co-star in a Doctor Who spin-off series.

The pair will cross paths in audio drama The Lives of Captian Jack, volume three, produced by Big Finish.

They will be joined by Jackie Tyler (Camille Coduri) for three brand new adventures : Crush, Might & Despair and R&J.

The new series will be released in March, ensuing Doctor Who fans have plenty of new content coming their once the current series wraps next month.

Barrowman admitted that a crossover with River Song had been on the cards for quite some time.

“Alex Kingston and I have talked about this for years – we knew that the fanbase always wanted River and Jack to meet, or to cross timelines, and we just never knew when it would happen, he explained.

Alex and I were always game for it and, thanks to Big Finish, this is where it’s happening.

He pointed out that the pair have natural chemistry because of how much they have in common.

“It’s like Jack is the male River and River is the female Jack. There are all sorts of comparisons in their behaviours and how they react; the verve and vivacious passion they have for solving problems; getting to the heart of the action and adventure; the determination to get what they want, but also the sadness behind both of their eyes,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile Kingston admitted that shed long pictured the pair gallivanting across the universe together.

She also credited their strong bond in real life for making working together a breeze.

“I’ve always imagined that, when River’s not on adventures with the Doctor, she’s somewhere having fun with Captain Jack. I’ve always had that at the back of my head, she said.

“John Barrowman and I get on so well, and whenever we’ve met at conventions, it’s the one request that the fans have come up with more than any other.

We have a lot of fun together so it’s something we’ve both been pushing independently for. I was so thrilled to find out that our dream has come true.”

Captain Jack made an epic return to Doctor Who last month, warning Jodie Whittaker to beware to lone Cyberman.

He spoke to her companions as she battled to solve the mystery of Ruth Claytons (Jo Martin) identity, ultimately unmaking her as another version of herself.

Doctor Who continued on Sunday on BBC One at 7:10pm and is available to stream on iPlayer.
