And tonight saw the celebs vote for boxer Amir after he told his camp mates to vote for him before they went in to mark their ballots.

And now Amir has revealed why he made that controversial choice.

“I didn’t want to see anyone else go to be honest with you,” he explained, adding that he had done what he set out to do by going back on the show.

Amir continued: “We were all having such a great time in there. I was enjoying it, too. I gave myself the confidence that I can do the Trials. I thought, ‘I’ve got no fear now. I can do these.’ I’d impressed myself.

“I hope people at home say, ‘Amir has made a massive difference to the first time [in camp].’ I’ve overcome what I wanted. I didn’t want to vote anyone else out. I thought, I’ll be the one to put my hand up. It’s best to leave on a good note than do something silly… which I think was coming!”

The Bolton lad added that he engineered his own exit while he was on a high, for fear that he would sabotage himself if he stayed in much longer.

Amir revealed: “Anything could have happened, you can’t be good for that long! I’ll end up doing something silly, pulling a stunt, I’m just that kind of guy. “

He concluded: “I’m just so glad in a way I didn’t do anything silly, like Strawberry-Gate, and hopefully people will now remember me for going to the jungle and saying, ‘He’s a good man’.

As he found out he had been voted out, Amir told the camp: “It’s fine. I was missing my kids, I want to just facetime them. It’s the longest time I’ve been away from them.”

And he told Ant and Dec: “I’m really happy, honestly. I had such a great experience here, made new friends, got to do three trials and won a lot of stars for the guys.”

He added: “Last time I came on I was scared of snakes, scared of spiders. I handled a snake in the second trial and I held it. I have overcome these fears I had. Overall it’s probably one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, probably better than Australia.”

Before the vote, Amir told his camp mates to pick him to leave
