Two original I’m a Celebrity campmates reunited on Good Morning Britain after more than 20 years since the first series.
New stars enter the jungle
Last night, a new group of celebrities entered the I’m a Celebrity camp, including Nigel Farage and Danielle Harold, all vying to be crowned King or Queen of the jungle.
The original campmates
Darren Day, 55, and Christine Hamilton, 74, were among the first I’m a Celebrity campmates in 2001. They appeared alongside Tony Blackburn, who eventually became the King of the Jungle, and the late Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, who was the runner-up.
Other celebrities in the first series included Nell McAndrew, Rhona Cameron, Nigel Benn, and Uri Geller.
Life-changing moment
Christine revealed that she initially turned down the opportunity to be on the show, saying, “I just said no, but I had no idea what I was turning down. It was a life-changing moment for me.”
Cold turkey in the jungle
During the interview, Darren opened up about his struggles with addiction. He shared that while in the jungle, he went cold turkey from alcohol and cocaine, saying, “I literally went cold turkey in front of the whole country. I was smashed when I got on the plane [to Australia].” However, he admitted that he went back to his addictions after leaving the show.
Fans praise Darren’s honesty
Fans took to social media to commend Darren for his honesty and bravery in sharing his story. Many wished him all the best in his continued recovery.
