The final week of I’m A Celebrity has faced a barrage of complaints from viewers, with many expressing concerns about the treatment of animals and the alleged bullying of contestant Sam Thompson. The show’s finale, which saw Sam emerge victorious, received over half of the total grievances, with a significant number focused on animal welfare.

French Chef Takes Swipe at Sam

During a Bushtucker Trial, French chef Fred Siriex made a comment directed at Sam Thompson that left fans shocked. He said, “You stay here and play with your toys.” This episode alone resulted in 59 complaints.

Animal Welfare Complaints

On the following day, an additional 58 complaints were lodged, with 44 of them related to the treatment of animals. The finale of the show, which featured Tony Bellew covered in various creepy crawlies and Nigel Farage locked in a coffin surrounded by snakes, generated 60 grievances, once again drawing attention to concerns about animal welfare.

Chris Packham Criticizes Show

Wildlife presenter Chris Packham joined the chorus of disapproval, calling the show “grotesque” and accusing it of exploiting animals. In an open letter to hosts Ant and Dec, he expressed his frustration and urged them to put an end to the abuse of animals for entertainment purposes. Packham suggested replacing the abuse with an educational component that celebrates wildlife and conservation.

ITV Responds

In response to Packham’s comments, ITV defended the show, stating that they have a strict environmental plan in place and always prioritize the welfare and safety of the animals involved. They emphasized that qualified and experienced animal handlers are present at all times during Bushtucker trials featuring animals.
