LOVE Island hopeful Shaughna Phillips has revealed she would be keen to get more involved in politics after her stint in the villa after working with the victims of the devastating Grenfell Fire.

The 25-year-old was forced to quit her job as a democratic services officer for Londons Lambeth council in order to find love on the show, but went on to reveal that she hopes that she can return to the world of politic to help people.

Shaughna is keen to return to her work in politics

She said: “I definitely want to get into some kind of politics. I just like helping people and I want to do as much as I can.

“For me, its not really about how much a job pays you, because its about helping people. I know thats clich and embarrassing, but the job I was in before my previous one was more money, but I got a better feeling out of it.”

She also worked with a fire safety team which was created two weeks after the Grenfell Tower disaster in 2017.

Speaking to press in South Africa ahead of the show’s launch, she said of the work which aimed to ensure front doors in council properties were fire safe: “To begin with, it was overwhelming.”

She asked her boss to keep her role open for her

She added: “But because youre doing something good, that if I went home and there was a few more fire safe doors that had been installed, it was like, good, were getting there.

“It was hitting the ground running as there was so much to do, so it was like a project and I loved, loved, loved it.”

Shaughna isn’t the first islander to enter the villa from the world of politics, however, as 2018 islander Zara McDermott was a former government adviser who worked for the Department of Education under Damian Hinds, advising on policy.

In 2017, Camilla Thurlow won over viewers with her stance on liberal politics as she taught the islanders about feminism, and its importance in the 21st century, and her work in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal field, which saw her travelto countries where war is ongoing and safely detonate bombs that have been left in zones of conflict.

Camilla worked for The Halo Trust

She has gone on to use her fame for the promotion of women’s causes

Camilla also worked for the charity The Halo Trust which was made famous in 1997 when the late Princess Diana visited the charity.

Shaughna, however, said she didn’t think she could be compared to Camilla, revealing: I think Im a little bit more confident or outgoing. She seemed so sweet, just like a little lamb you want to hold, and I think Im definitely more lairy.

I need to take a note out of her book!
