Justin Welby Accepts Decision
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has revealed that he will not impede the government's flagship plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda. Despite previously opposing the deportation scheme in the House of Lords, Welby now acknowledges that the Commons has the final say on the matter.
End of the Road for Opposition
Welby stated that the fight against the deportation plan in the House of Lords has come to an end. He recognizes that the elected Commons may overturn any changes made by Peers and has decided not to block the legislation.
Concerns Remain
Although he has accepted the decision, Archbishop Welby still expresses grave concerns about the policy. He emphasized that his objections are not specific to Rwanda and would persist even if asylum seekers were being deported to Sweden.
