Boris Johnson hints ‘social distancing will end in a year’ as he vows to work ‘night and day to see off virus’

BORIS Johnson today indicated social distancing would be over within a year as he vowed to work “night and day” to see off the virus like an “alien invader”.

In a bold address to the Tory faithful in a virtual party conference today, he said his Government were working for the day life is “back to normal” – and the country must use the huge opportunities now to push through change.

The PM vowed to “build back better” and make Britain the “greatest place on earth” with a plan to look beyond coronavirus with a raft of new policies.

He said today: “It is not going to hold us back, slow us down, and we are certainly not going to let us get us down… even in the darkest moments.”

He also revealed today:

  • Plans to rip up the mortgage market by offering 5 per cent mortgages to get more young people out of “cramped flats” and onto the housing ladder
  • Announced plans to create thousands of green jobs with a revolution in wind energy
  • He revealed he lost nearly two stone so far in his post-Covid health kick
  • Boris blasted claims that he wasn’t fully recovered from covid as “self-evident drivel” and “propaganda”
