Controversial Remarks on GB News
During an interview with GB News, Lee Anderson stirred controversy by stating, "I don’t actually believe that the Islamists have got control of our country, but what I do believe is they’ve got control of Khan and they’ve got control of London… He’s actually given our capital city away to his mates."
Suspension from the Party
Despite facing criticism for his comments, Anderson has refused to apologize. In response, Chief Whip Simon Hart suspended the Conservative whip from Lee Anderson MP, stating that he did not apologize for his remarks.
Mounting Pressure and Silence
Pressure had been mounting on Chancellor Rishi Sunak to address the situation, with London Mayor Sadiq Khan criticizing the "deafening silence" of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet, which he viewed as condoning racism.
