Labour's tough stance on failed asylum seekers and foreign criminals

Labour has promised to deploy a 1,000-strong squad to track down failed asylum seekers and foreign criminals if they win power, aiming to speed up the process of sending them back to their home countries within weeks.

Cracking down on chaos in the asylum system

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper criticized the Tories for a 40% drop in asylum removals since 2010, stating that the system has "descended into chaos." Labour plans to establish a new returns and enforcement unit to ensure rules are respected and the system is not exploited.

Enforcing rules and tackling illegal practices

The squad, funded by clearing the asylum backlog and ending hotel use, will also focus on illegal employment practices and collaborate with law enforcement to dismantle human trafficking networks. A fast track asylum casework system for safe countries will also be implemented, with progress updates provided to the Home Secretary.
