MP Michael Gove in Hot Water for Failing to Declare VIP Hospitality

Michael Gove, the Levelling Up Secretary, has been found to have breached Commons rules by not declaring VIP hospitality at three football matches within the required 28-day period, according to parliament's sleaze watchdog.

Apology and Oversight

Gove has since apologized for the oversight and updated his declaration of interests after an investigation by chief sleaze investigator Daniel Greenberg. Despite the breach, Gove was let off without any punishment.

Details of the Breach

The senior minister failed to declare VIP treatment at three Queens Park Rangers games, with tickets valued at £460 and £542. The hospitality included a match courtesy of Tory donor David Mellor in 2021 and two matches gifted by the club in 2020 and 2022.

Minor Oversight

In a letter to Gove, Greenberg stated that while the interests were registered significantly late, they were considered minor in nature and did not warrant further action.
