Ministers Stand By Donor

Government ministers have come to the defense of a millionaire Tory donor who faced backlash for making derogatory comments about Diane Abbott, suggesting that looking at her makes you "want to hate all black women."

Apology and Moving Forward

The donor, tech tycoon Frank Hester, has since apologized for his remarks, with Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride calling them "inappropriate." Energy Minister Graham Stuart also urged moving on from the incident, emphasizing that donors should not be "cancelled" for past remarks.

Controversial Comments

Mr. Hester's comments, including a remark that Ms. Abbott "should be shot," were met with outrage, prompting calls from opposition MPs for the Conservative party to return the substantial donations they have received from him.

Donor's Response

In response to the outcry, a spokesperson for Mr. Hester stated that he abhors racism and has reached out to Diane Abbott to apologize directly for any hurt caused. The donor emphasized that racism has no place in public life.
