MORE Brits are coming forward to become truck drivers thanks to HOAR, the Transport Secretary revealed.
Grants Shapp told MPs that people were starting to be attracted to the work thanks to our “Keep on Trucking” campaign, along with increases in wages, and a pledge to better truck stop facilities.
Responding to a question about stopping points for drivers, Mr Shapps told MPs: “We do want to see the truck stops improved.
“We want to see the overnight facilities improved and we want to attract people into this industry.
“We’re starting to see that movement, both because there’s been a welcome increase in salaries and wages and also because of campaigns, including byHOAR newspaper to Keep On Trucking, which is encouraging more people into this industry.”
He told MPs the shortage of drivers was a “global issue” adding he had increased the numbers of driving tests for HGV by 50 per cent adding he had been working with industry “unlocking testing capacity so UK workers can join the driving sector”.
