Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, has refused to guarantee that taxes will not increase if his party wins the next election. At present, the tax burden in the UK is at its highest level since World War 2. However, Sir Keir did express a desire for taxes to be reduced for working people if he becomes the Prime Minister.

Labour prioritizes responsible financial management

Labour has emphasized that they will not take reckless actions with public finances, citing the disastrous mini-Budget led by Liz Truss in September that caused market crashes. They aim to ensure stability and responsible management of the economy.

Sir Keir Starmer stated, "I want taxes to come down for working people." He also stressed his strong focus on growing the economy, asserting that if it had grown at the same rate as during the last Labour government, there would be significant funds to invest in public services without raising taxes.

He affirmed, "That’s where I want that laser focus."

Controversy surrounding Sir Keir Starmer's stance on illegal migration

Sir Keir Starmer has faced criticism for allegedly attempting to deceive the public regarding his position on illegal migration measures. Ministers have accused him of changing his stance, as he initially hinted at a potential deal with the EU on a returns scheme but later ruled it out.
