The muddled Labour chief vowed to go green but not yet – with a major rowing back on his North Sea Oil vow after a furious union backlash.

He insisted he did still want to ban new oil and gas licences if he makes it to No10 – but would ignore any which are rubber stamped in the next year.
Union bosses were still unimpressed and called for “cast iron guarantees” that tens of thousands oil and gas workers “will not be thrown under a bus in the transition to net zero”.
New analysis showed that binning oil projects in the pipeline which have not yet got licences would generate a £87billion hit to the UK economy.
And the Labour chief vowed to “double down” on his £28billion spending splurge – despite Rachel Reeves ditching huge chunks of it earlier this month in a bid not to spook the markets.
Energy Secretary Grant Shapps hit out at his plan, saying it had “waved the white flag to Just Stop Oil“.
He raged: “His plan would cede British jobs and billions of pounds to tyrannical dictatorships like Russia and leave every British family unprotected from energy warfare.”
David Whitehouse of Offshore Energies UK hit out at the plan as “too much too soon”, saying it would be ” damaging for the industry, for consumers and for the UK’s net zero ambitions”.
A Conservative spokesman dubbed it an “energy surrender plan” which would “saddle the British people with billions of debt and borrowing”.
They said: “Written and funded by the Just Stop Oil extremists, Labour’s energy policy appeases their eco-zealot paymasters and puts dictators like Putin in charge of setting the price of your energy bills.”
