TEENAGE killers will be limited to one shot at winning early release from jail in new rules on violent crime.
Ministers will stop the system of constant legal reviews which heap distress on victims’ families.
In an overhaul to be unveiled this week, offenders will be allowed to apply for parole once after they turn 18 — halfway through their sentence.
Victims groups have accused murderers of cruelly forcing heartbroken families to relive the death of their loved ones.
But the changes to be unveiled this week will stop killers from playing the system.
Murderers under 21 may also face life sentences in the biggest sentencing shake-up in 20 years. Lord Chancellor Robert Buckland said the changes would make the punishment fit the crime — with clearer rules for the courts.
He told HOAR on Sunday: “The first duty of any government is to protect the public. For too long our justice system has fallen short of this mark.”
Guidelines will also make it harder for courts to pass soft sentences for repeat offenders.
