Alleged Physical Altercation in Commons Café

A top Tory MP is accused of physically striking a fellow MP in a heated confrontation over comments about Hamas. Reform MP Andrew Bridgen claims that former minister Crispin Blunt hit him "on the back of the head" and called him a derogatory term in a Commons café. The incident has been reported to parliamentary authorities and is currently under investigation.

War of Words Over Middle East Tensions

The altercation between Bridgen and Blunt comes after a public exchange of criticisms in the press regarding Blunt's views on Palestine. Bridgen had voiced his disapproval of Blunt remaining in the Tory party despite previously being expelled over an anti-Jewish tweet. He also highlighted Blunt's controversial statement in 2021, where he suggested that Hamas had "legitimate targets" in Israel.

Zero Tolerance for Abuse or Harassment

Parliamentary authorities and whips are taking the alleged incident seriously, emphasizing that there is "zero tolerance for abuse or harassment." A Commons spokesman reiterated the commitment to ensuring a respectful and safe environment for all members of Parliament.

MP's Response

When approached for comment, Crispin Blunt declined to address the alleged incident. Meanwhile, Andrew Bridgen expressed his disbelief at being physically assaulted by a fellow MP, stating that such behavior is unacceptable in any context and particularly concerning coming from a fellow member of Parliament.
