The Conservative Party has been urged to "change course" by its MPs following two by-election defeats, in order to regain hope for the upcoming General Election. The warnings come as both Wellingborough and Kingswood were lost to Labour, with the Tories losing votes to Reform. MPs from the New Conservatives group have called for tax cuts and stricter immigration policies to appeal to disillusioned Tories. Additionally, Lord Frost has demanded "more Conservative" policies and a pledge to quit the European Court of Human Rights.

Labour Sees Big Swing in By-Election Results

The by-election results have shown a significant swing towards the Labour Party since the last General Election. The losses in Wellingborough and Kingswood mark a worrying sign for the Conservatives, as they continue to lose ground to their political opponents. The Reform Party, founded by Nigel Farage, came in third place in both contests.

PM Acknowledges Setback and Calls for Unity

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has acknowledged the setback and stated that there is "work to do" following the by-election defeats. He attributed the losses to the challenging circumstances of midterm elections and highlighted the lower turnouts as a sign of lack of enthusiasm for the alternative parties. However, he warned that voting for Reform would help propel Sir Keir Starmer to No10.

Labour Sees Opportunity for Change

Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, has interpreted the by-election results as a sign that the country is "crying out for change." Labour candidates were able to overturn significant majorities in both Wellingborough and Kingswood, indicating a desire for a different political direction.

Rishi Sunak Launches Blade Crackdown

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has unveiled plans for a crackdown on yob crime, including a focus on knife crime. During a visit to Harlow Police Station, Sunak brandished a seized "zombie knife" and announced £66 million in funding for "hotspot" patrols. He emphasized that antisocial behavior is a scourge on communities and must be addressed.
