EASTENDERS fans have been left in tears as Roxy Mitchell made an unexpected return from the dead to comfort her troubled daughter Amy.

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains detailed spoilers from tonight’s episode of EastEnders which is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.

Roxy Mitchell was back in tonight’s episode

Her conversation with Amy left fans in tears

Rita reprised the role for a special episode

It was a return that did not seem possible but Rita Simons left viewers in tears as she re-appeared in tonight’s episode of the BBC soap opera as Walford legend Roxy Mitchell.

Following yesterday’s exclusive announcement in HOAR, fans were sent into a tailspin that one half of the Mitchell sisters had finally made their way back to Albert Sqaure.

Roxy was last seen on screens on New Year’s Day 2017, where she seemingly drowned after becoming mixed up with drugs alongside her sister Ronnie, played by Samantha Womack.

The decision to axe two of the soap’s biggest stars was a controversial one and something even actress Rita has slammed to this day, admitting she even refused to film key scenes in order to stick up for herself and the character of Roxy.

However, she made a triumphant return during tonight’s episode as she ‘sat down’ for a heartbreaking conversation with her daughter Amy, played by Ellie Dadd.

In the emotional scenes, Amy imagined she was sat with her mum during a tense family therapy session.

Viewers have seen Amy battle with her mental health in recent months but she finally felt able to ‘open up’ to mum Roxy.

The therapist asked Amy what she would say to her mum if she was around – to which she responded: “Did you ever really love me?”

As Amy continued how she imagined her mum would say she ‘loved her’, Roxy appeared next to her as she said: “Yes, my baby, yeah. With all of my heart.”

Roxy then told Amy she was “right here” as she gently pushed against her necklace that fell above her heart.

Amy struggled to convey her emotions and asked her mum if she was enough as Roxy told her: “You are, you were the one thing that I had, the one good thing.

“I was fighting for you!”

Later in the tender scene, Roxy was able to provide some more relief as she recalled a fun memory of her and Amy having to come up with a poem about the Tudors for Amy’s school work.

The mother and daughter duo laughed as they recited the poem once again.

Roxy later urged her daughter to never give up and insisted she didn’t need to harm herself for anyone.

In a flash, the EastEnders icon was gone as Amy could be seen being comforted by Denise Fox (Diane Parish) who asked her if she was okay after “zoning out for a moment”.

Fans were left in floods of tears at Roxy’s return and immediately raced to Twitter to air their thoughts on the special episode.

Writing online, one fan said: “Roxy making a reappearance in eastenders has me SOBBING. we miss u Roxy #eastenders.”

Another added: “Todays episode of Eastenders had me sobbing. It home massively for me and was nice to see Roxy back [sic].”

A third shared: “Just watched the scene of Roxy coming back in eastenders and I’m genuinely in tears. I need a full come back NOW.”

While a fourth wrote: “No coz tell me why I cried at that Roxy scene from Eastenders when I’ve just tanned my face and also haven’t watched that show since Ronnie and Roxy died f*** sake.”

As a fifth fan penned: “Tonight’s ep has broke my heart, seeing Roxy back as Amy’s imagination. I miss Roxy so much.”
