CORONATION Street fans are overjoyed at a shock exit tonight.

The cobbles said goodbye to rapist Aaron Sandford after he finally admitted that he raped Amy Barlow.

Aaron Sandford finally admitted he had raped Amy Barlow in Coronation Street

Amy bravely made him recall exactly what he did to her that night

With Aaron’s libel lawsuit threatening to bankrupt the Barlows, Amy made a heartbreaking decision.

Sitting her parents down she told them she wanted it to be over before it cost them anymore.

“I have to move on, please let me,” Amy said.

Tracy and Steve agreed for Amy’s sake and then Amy wrote the retraction and arranged to meet Aaron to hand it over.

But her words weren’t enough for Aaron, he lashed out because Amy’s new words didn’t ring true and she lost it.

Telling him to write what happened and she’d post it, she stormed out.

However the act of having to write out what he had been claiming happened to fit with the facts left Aaron finally questioning what he did.

“I’m dropping the libel case and I’m leaving,” he told her later. “You’ll never have to see me again. You’re in the clear.”

Amy was furious with his words and confronted him, demanding to know why he still wouldn’t admit what he did.

Step by step she forced him to walk through the night he raped her and forced him to remember what he did.

“You raped me,” she said.

“I actually thought that I needed to hear you admit it, but look at you, you know what you did. And you have to live with that.”

Finally Amy got through to him and he realised what he’d done, though he still wouldn’t admit it and fled out onto the street.

“I’m sorry,” he said as he drove off with his dad and fans are overjoyed he’s gone.

One wrote: “Amy should take over Weatherfield police because that was some grilling of Aaron there!”

A second said: “Yep. Exactly as Amy said: Aaron knows and will have to live with it.”

Another added: “Honestly the most satisfying outcome and i’m super proud of the actress that plays Amy, what a beautiful episode from her.”

Actor James Craven has now confirmed his exit, admitting he’s sad to leave the soap.

“It’s obviously very sad, it’s been a lot of fun and I’ve really, really loved my time there,” he said.

“I met so many great people and I’ve made so many good friends for life. But I’m excited, I’m really, really excited to get on and go on and do other things.”

Amy had written down her account of the night Aaron raped her

Fans were relieved to see him finally accept it before leaving Weatherfield in his dad’s car
