Coronation Street viewers were in for a surprise during a recent episode when Beth Sutherland discussed her plans for a sun-soaked holiday. However, it wasn't Beth's vacation plans that caught the attention of fans, but rather her pronunciation of the popular destination Tenerife.

Beth's Taxi Troubles

Beth was left irritated when Tim Metcalfe, her taxi driver, was late to pick her up from the supermarket. Tim had to compete with another driver in order to win Beth's business, eventually convincing her to use Street Cars as originally intended.

While on the way to her destination, Beth engaged in a conversation with Tim, who was clearly struggling to pay attention. Unbeknownst to Tim, Coronation Street viewers were listening intently and noticed Beth's unique pronunciation of Tenerife.

A Pronunciation Blunder

Instead of saying Tenerife, Beth pronounced it as "Tenerifee." This caught the attention of fans, who took to social media to comment on the unusual pronunciation.

One viewer wrote, "The way Beth said Tenerife is sending me, LOL." Another added, "Why did she say Tenerife-ee?" A third viewer tweeted, "Beth it's Tenerife, not Tenarifee."

Narrow Escape

Before the conversation could continue, Tim started to doze off at the wheel due to lack of sleep from a recent ordeal. Their taxi nearly collided with another car, but Beth's shriek woke Tim up just in time to avoid a disaster. To cover up the incident, Tim claimed that he had simply lost concentration.

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
