When Paul tried to call Shelly later, there was no answer. It was then revealed that Shelly's carer had let paramedics into her flat. He sadly informed them, "She's in the bedroom. There's no pulse. I think she went in her sleep."

Unaware of Shelly's passing, Paul left her a voicemail apologizing for not being able to visit. He mentioned buying her an album and breaking it when he fell. He promised to call her in the morning.
