Angela told the Daily Star: “It’s very tempting to go back and just stay there forever and a day. I’m open to the idea of that. My character isn’t dead so the door is open.

“There was talk about making it happen this year but it couldn’t because the dates didn’t work out. But it could happen in the future.”

The Leeds-born star continued: “Corrie holds such a big place in my heart. I was my daughter’s age when I first started on it. But even now after all these years I still absolutely love it.

Angela’s appearance earlier this year saw her appear via Skype from Australia, where Fiona now lives, to speak to her daughter Emma (Alexandra Mardell)

It was revealed this summer that Emma’s biological dad was in fact Steve McDonald, Fiona’s former lover.

Angela, who said she found returning to the show “emotional” but “loads of fun”, went on to enjoy a very successful acting career after waving goodbye to the soap in the nineties.

She starred in BBC dramas Cutting It, Waterloo Road and Ordinary Lies, while also enjoying roles in ITV series such as Lewis and Brief Encounters.

Angela has also done various presenting stints, including Emergency with Angela Griffin.

She is married to actor Jason Milligan and they have two daughters, Tallulah, 15, and Melissa, 12.
