The 54-year-old flatly refused to use a name linked to the BBC soap.

Adam ‘wanted to keep this project completely separate’ from his time as Ian Beale

A source said: “Adam was adamant.

“He wanted to keep this project completely separate.

“The crew had to work on a different character.”

He played Ian Beale from 1985 to 2020.

But last night Adam appeared as glamorous Madame MiMi D’YooYoo, on ITV’s Queens For The Night — in which celebs dressed as female alter-egos.

They were taught how to walk in high heels,  lip-sync to music and put on a cabaret-style show.

Also competing on the show were Coronation Street star Simon Gregson, 48, fitness expert Mr Motivator, 69,  Love Islander Chris Hughes, 27, pop singer George Shelley, 29, and England rugby union player Joe Marler, 35.

The gang were mentored by professional drag artists and taught how to walk in high heels, lip-sync to music on stage and  put on a cabaret-style show in front of an audience.

When asked if he was nervous about his performance on the show, he replied: “What can possibly go wrong? Well, I can forget my lines for one. I could trip over the dress.

“I could trip over my heels and my wig could fall over my eyes. Who knows what could happen on the night! “

Adam’s latest venture comes after the actor’s divorce was finalised after 22 years of marriage to his wife Beverley Sharp.

Bev is said to be delighted with the settlement after standing her ground in negotiations.

Adam, who is one of soap’s most recognisable faces, has played Albert Square’s Ian Beale since 1985 but is now on an extended break from the BBC soap.

Last month, a friend of Bev’s said: “Bev and Adam are now officially divorced.

“As well as being his wife, Bev was also his manager for about a dozen years and she did so much for his career.

“She rejected some of the settlement offers she was sent during the process and now she’s glad she held her ground — she is delighted with the settlement.

“She still has no idea why he left her but that’s all in the past.

“She’s very upbeat and sees it as a new chapter. I’ve no doubt Bev will find someone new soon. She’s in a good place.”
