Emmerdales classic 1993 plane crash disaster airs today on ITV3

EMMERDALE fans have been left overjoyed as ITV has aired the now iconic 1993 plane crash disaster episode.

The plane crash is still considered a classic episode of British TV

The storyline firmly set the soap as a major contender against Coronation Street and EastEnders, after falling viewer figures saw it at risk of being axed.

The scene gave the soap its highest-ever viewing figures, as 18 million people tuned in to watch the mayhem unfold.

As Beckindale lay in ruin, four characters perished: Mark Hughes, Elizabeth Pollard, Archie Brooks and Leonard Kempinski.
