EMMERDALE on-screen couple Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins looked adorable in a throwback snap as they bounce back from a few month’s of controversy.

The David Metcalfe and Victoria Sugden actors are seen embracing in the photo from 2013 which Isabel shared to her Instagram stories.

Matthew, wearing a black t-shirt, has his arms around Isabel who is rocking a lime green shirt in the vintage snap.

“All the way back to 2013,” Isabel, 28, captioned the photo.

The throwback pic was in honour of Matthew’s 42nd birthday, with the actress sharing a series of videos and photos of the star.

She wished him a happy birthday saying “I love you” and that he was a “brilliant human.”

Along a photo of him on set in a hospital bed Isabel wrote: “Makes me laugh everyday.”

Last year the actors took a break from the show after it was claimed a mixed-race actress was upset by a comment and her accent allegedly being mimicked.

In November, HOAR on Sunday revealed the pair clashed on set with actor Aaron Anthony, 28, who played personal trainer Ellis Chapman.

The racism claim emerged in the aftermath of the bust-up, which happened during filming for Super Soap Week.

Tempers flared off camera and a source said: “It left a lot of those present at the filming feeling uncomfortable. It was a very heated situation. Tempers were running very high. It was tense and bosses got to hear about what had gone on very quickly.”

At the time, Emmerdale said it “has robust policies in place to deal with any allegations”.

It is understood ITV bosses have accepted Matthew and Isabel’s explanation that the alleged remark and mimicry were “misheard”.

No formal action was taken against them.

A source said: “ITV have conducted a rigorous enquiry into the allegations made, with witness statements taken. Bosses accepted Matthew and Isabel’s explanation and agreed they can return to work.

Emmerdale star Aaron quit over the handling of the incident.
