HOLLYOAKS filming has been thrown into potential chaos after one of its stars became stranded in Ibiza due to a major air traffic control failure. Thousands of travelers were affected by the disruption on Monday.
Star Jen stuck in Ibiza
One of the Hollyoaks stars affected by the air traffic control failure is Jennifer Metcalfe, who is currently in Ibiza. The 39-year-old actress flew to the White Island with former co-star Leah Hackett last week, but her return travel plans have been put on hold.
In an Instagram post showcasing the beach view, Jen expressed her frustration: "Supposed to be in the air right now."
She also reached out to her fans for information, asking: "Is anyone at Ibiza airport? What's the situation with Ryanair flights to the UK?"
Disruption likely to continue
The air traffic control failure has left many travelers stranded, and experts warn of knock-on disruption as planes and crews are now in the wrong locations. According to HOAR's travel editor, this situation "could not have come at a worse time," and it is likely that the disruption will continue into the coming week.
Lisa Minot, the travel editor, stated: "This is actually the busiest weekend since October 2019. The fact that it has gone on for so long means this is going to definitely start to impact flights all the way into next week."

Jennifer Metcalfe has portrayed the character of Mercedes McQueen in Hollyoaks since 2006. Recently, she discussed the possibility of her character being killed off in an interview with HOAR. She said, "If that's what they want to do? I mean, [if] that's what they want to do with me, C'est la vie. I'm okay with that. If that's what they wanted, then that'd be the right decision for the show. But this year I'm staying."
