NEW parents Chloe Harris and Mackenzie Boyd are rocked after baby Reuben is given a shocking diagnosis.

Viewers were left in tears after newborn baby Reuben was rushed to hospital after receives a devastating diagnosis.

Chloe comes to terms with her baby’s diagnosis

New mum Chloe (Jessie Elland) panicked after she noticed Reuben’s very high temperature in Thursday’s episode of the ITV soap.

Concerned about his symptoms, Chloe called GP Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) who came to investigate and suggested they go to A & E.

Chloe’s world was rocked when she’s told it’s likely that Reuben has bacterial meningitis. 

The doctor informed her is was an infection of the membrane that protects the brain and spine.

The doctor warned her that her that the next 72 hours are critical.

A terrified Chloe asked if Reuben will die to which the doctor responded: “It is a possibility, yes.”

Chloe blamed herself, but the doctor reassured her that she did the right thing in calling the GP and bringing him in.

Elsewhere, when the news about the meningitis diagnosis filters through, Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) is left reeling. 

He secretly visited the hospital to see his son on the ventilator and prayed for him to be okay.

Later, back in the village, he then holds back tears from new wife Charity (Emma Atkins) as she talked about baby Reuben’s diagnosis.

The episode ends with Chloe in tears as she watches her baby on the ventilator in an incubator.

ITV viewers were left devastated for Chloe and broke down in tears.

Taking to Twitter, one said: “Poor Chloe, no new mum should be going through this alone.”

Another wrote: “Heart is breaking for Chloe.”

A third penned: “Poor Chloe I really feel for her.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV1.
