ARTHUR Thomas has been getting closer to Marshall after coming out as gay in late 2022.

Unfortunately, the young couple are torn apart again when Laurel Thomas makes a big mistake next week in Emmerdale.

Laurel Thomas finds out what’s been going on

She gets Marshall to reunite with his dad Colin

And she’s surprised by the latter’s reaction

The lad portrayed by Alfie Clarke is making peace with his sexuality but this isn’t the case for everyone in the Dales.

After sharing multiple charged moments with his love interest Marshall Hamston (Max Fletcher) Arthur has had no choice but to take a step back from him due to his homophobic father Colin (Mark Noble).

As the boys bonded in previous scenes, Marshall admitted he was ready to go on a proper date with Arthur and revealed he didn’t mean anything he had told him during a prank he’d pulled on him.

The pair nearly kissed but, as mentioned above, Colin has been driving a wedge between them – and made a complaint against Arthur’s LGBTQ+ presentation at school.

This prompts Arthur’s mother Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) to take action after she finds out what has been going on.

She prepares to call Marshall’s father Colin but she realises there’s more to the situation than teenage rebellion when the lad starts crying uncontrollably.

A panicked and tearful Marshall sees his father stride over but Colin surprises him and Laurel by wrapping his son in his arms and hugging him tightly.

Colin reveals Marshal won’t have to leave Hotten Academy after all, despite his previous decision, and he can even keep up his friendship with Arthur.

Laurel is relieved when faced with the apparent breakthrough but Arthur doesn’t see it that way.

The latter becomes concerned, knowing that not everything is as it seems and Laurel is terrified she may have made a mistake.

Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) tries to comfort her as she feels bad for calling Colin in the first place.

In later scenes, Arthur’s suspicions are confirmed when he informs Jai and Laurel that the situation between Marshall and his father has gone from bad to worse.

Laurel is shocked but remains determined to do right by Marshall.

What will she have planned?

What will Colin do?

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.

Arthur and Marshall have been trying to bond

But Marshall’s father Colin is clearly homophobic
