WHILE viewers keep up with any new arrival or exit, soap shake-ups are also a common occurrence behind the screen.

One Emmerdale icon has found a spot in EastEnders, mere weeks after leaving the ITV Dales.

What does Sharon Marshall have planned for Walford?

Sharon Marshall has signed to EastEnders and broke the news on Wednesday during her usual soap roundup on ITV’s This Morning.

The resident soap expert told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield she would be joining the London-based drama as a picture of her appeared on screen alongside the iconic Albert Square sign.

“I am. I’ve been over at EastEnders for a little while now. My first episode is coming up next Wednesday”, she announced.

“It’s obligatory that you’ve got to take a photo like that. I’m part of the writing team now, I’m thrilled to say.”

“I’ve got an episode next week, all about Keanu and Ravi and Sharon. Oh my gosh, writing Sharon is just amazing.”

Holly added EastEnders are lucky to have her, to which she replied: “No I’m lucky to be there. That team’s on fire. I just heard about what they have planned and I just said, I really want in.”

As she mentioned while speaking about her new venture, Sharon has already written several episodes of EastEnders, one of which featured the return of Walford royalty Sharon Watts.

But her announcement comes weeks after her departure from rival ITV show, Emmerdale.

Soap queen Sharon announced her departure earlier in a candid Tweet, earlier this year, teasing she’d be moving on to “pastures new.”

She’d been part of the Emmerdale team since 2015.

“My last Emmerdale is on tonight at 7.30pm. Off to writing pastures new now but it’s been an absolute joy and privilege to play in the Dales for six years. I’ll hugely miss the fabulous team”, she penned.

HOAR has reached out to ITV for further comment.

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
