Bet Lynch was a fictional character on Coronation Street.

She graced our screens over decades and brought plenty of entertaining storylines.

The role was initially supposed to last two weeks but after viewers fell in love with her, she became a permanent addition.

Throughout her time on the show, Bet had some ups and downs.

From the start she went through some struggles including her father leaving when she was just six months old and receiving a strict Roman Catholic upbringing by her mother.

However, she went on to become Miss Weatherfield in 1955 and when she was sixteen, she met a man named Joe Mason at a party, who was twelve years older than her.

She soon learned she was pregnant and Joe left Weatherfield.

Other significant storylines included Bet being the landlady of The Rovers Return and going to live in Tenerife.
