CORONATION Street has had its fair share of villains over the years – but Geoff Metcalfe is one of the most despised.

The abusive and controlling husband of Yasmeen Nazir has had viewers boiling with rage for a year already but how does he stack up against the other villains in Corrie history?

Here’s a look back at Weatherfield’s most prolific baddies…

Geoff Metcalfe

Geoff has bullied and humiliated Yasmeen for months

There aren’t many characters on soap that can unite a nation but Geoff has done it.

The hospital DJ targeted gentle chef Yasmeen Nazir and then systematically used coercive control to break her down until she was reduced to nothing more than an emotional punching bag for him.

She finally snapped and stabbed him – but he’s playing the victim and his reign of terror is set to last at least another six months.

Gary Windass

In many ways he was the heir to Pat Phelan – but not as convincing.

Ex soldier Gary was always getting into scrapes and somehow losing against weedy hairdressers, until he got into some debt and ended up being blackmailed by Rick Neelan.

He ended up killing Rana Habeeb when he broke the factory roof so he could get the job and pay Rick off, and then he found himself murdering Rick and burying him in the woods.

Since then he’s become a loan shark himself and has been terrorising the less fortunate of Weatherfield ever since.

Pat Phelan, played by Conor McIntyre first arrived on the soap in 2013.

He started out by terrorising the Windass family and leading them to financial ruin.

He raped Anna Windass and framed her for GBH which led to her imprisonment.

His crimes soon escalated leading him to kill Andy Carver and Luke Britton.

In 2018, he confessed all to wife Eileen who pushed him off a pier in Whithaven.

He then returned to unleash more chaos at Rob and Michelle’s wedding before finally meeting his end.

Richard Hillman

Richard Hillman, Gail Platt’s husband, was played by Brian Capron from 2001-2003.

He claimed Audrey Roberts was going insane and tried to burn her house down to get her money.

He also attempted to murder Emily Bishop by hitting her over the head with a crowbar but instead killed Maxine Peacock.

When she caught him red handed he said the infamous line “you should have stayed at the party Maxine…”

After confessing his crimes to Gail, Richard attempted to murder the entire Platt family by driving them into the canal.

In 2018, psychic Rosemary told Gail that Richard has cursed her family from beyond the grave.

Simon Barlow

Simon Barlow, currently played by Alex Bain, is the son of Peter and Lucy Barlow.

He had a hard start in life – his mum died when he was five leaving him to be raised by his alcoholic dad.

It wasn’t long before he began to exhibit a mean streak and threw a remote control at step-mum Leanne’s face.

In 2018 he has joined a gang and so far has aided in the mugging of Audrey Roberts and smashed a car windscreen.

Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford, is the daughter of Ken and Deirdre Barlow – although Ray Langton is her biological father.

She murdered her boyfriend Charlie Stubbs after finding out he’d cheated on her in 2006.

In 2011 she pushed then ex Steve McDonald’s girlfriend Becky down the stairs causing her to miscarry.

Most recently in 2013, she went on the run will killer boyfriend Rob Donovan who murdered Tina McIntyre.

Alan Bradley

Alan Bradley, played by Mark Eden arrived in Weatherfield in 1986.

He owned Weatherfield Security Systems.

He tried to suffocate Rita when she exposed him as a fraud for borrowing money against her home without her knowledge.

Upon his release from prison, Alan followed Rita to Blackpool but died after being hit by a tram.

David Platt

David Platt currently played by Jack P. Shepherd has been in Coronation Street since birth in 1990.

Over the years he’s been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde character, constantly swinging between good and evil.

His evil exploits have included pushing mum Gail down the stairs and being responsible for niece Bethany accidentally swallowing an ecstasy tablet.

He also injured Jason Grimshaw, Sarah’s then fiancé by loosening the bolts on his scaffolding – and he’s set to beat up her current boyfriend Gary too!

In 2013 he found out his brother Nick had an affair with his wife Kylie and deliberately caused a car crash which left Nick in a coma.

Clayton Hibbs

Clayton stabbed David’s wife Kylie

Clayton Hibbs, played by Callum Harrison is the son of David’s current girlfriend Shona Ramsey.

He arrived in 2016 and harassed Gemma Winter, forcing her to accept counterfeit notes at the kebab shop.

His attacks grew increasingly more threatening and violent.

When Kylie tried to defend Gemma, he stabbed her and she later died in husband David’s arms.

Don Brennan

Don Brennan was played by Geoffrey Hinsliff in Corrie from 1987-1997.

He bought MVB motors from Mike Baldwin but started to resent him when the garage went bust.

He kidnapped Mike’s wife Alma and drove their car into the canal but both survived.

Don later tried to run Mike over but died when his car crashed into a viaduct and exploded.

Maya Sharma

Maya Sharma was a woman scorned

Maya Sharma, played by Sasha Behar, arrived on Corrie in 2003.

When Dev dumped her she became the ultimate woman scorned and began a campaign of revenge.

Her plan was to set fire to each of Dev’s shops one by one and she held Dev and his lover Sunita hostage.

She exited the soap after driving into a wall and being hit by a truck – but miraculously she survived.

Kirsty Soames

Kirsty was sent to prison for abusing Tyrone

Kirsty Soames played by Natalie Gumede was a former police officer and Tyrone’s abusive ex.

The couple had a daughter, Ruby who was born in 2012.

She subjected Tyrone to violent attacks which included throwing plates at him and punching him.

In 2013 she was sent to prison for domestic violence charges.

Josh Tucker

Josh Tucker took advantage of David Platt

Josh Tucker, played by Ryan Claton, arrived in Weatherfield in 2018.

He is a mechanic and soon befriended David Platt.

However he showed his true colours by drugging and raping David.

So far he seems to have no remorse for his crime and refuses to leave the street.

Tony Gordon

Tony Gordon was played by Gray O’Brien from 2007-2010.

He was a psycho Scot who tried to murder his wife Carla Connor twice.

Tony also murdered her former brother-in-law Liam after finding out they’d had an affair.

He even tried to drown Roy Cropper in the canal.

He finally got his comeuppance when died in a dramatic showdown that involved him burning down the factory.
