EastEnders’ Kheerat Panesar is spending life behind bars

Who is Kheerat Panesar in EastEnders?

EastEnders character Kheerat Singh Panesar is the son of Suki and Nish Panesar and brother of Jags, Ash, Vinny and Ravi.

He made his first appearance on October 4, 2019 and his last on November 10, 2022.

Kheerat made a huge impact on Walford and was the head of the Panesar family until his dad Nish Panesar’s release from a 20 year stint in prison.

During his time on EastEnders, he dated Stacey Slater, nearly murdered Ben Mitchell for his part in his brother Jags’ death, and exposed serial killer Gray Atkins for killing his wife Chantelle.

Kheerat was played by actor Jaz Deol, who is also known for BBC drama The Halcyon.

Why did Kheerat Panesar get life in EastEnders?

Kheerat was sentenced to life in prison after he took the fall for Ranveer Gulati’s murder in order to save his mum, Suki Panesar.

The Panesar family had been reeling since she was arrested for the murder of Ranveer and were pulling out all the stops to prevent her from going to prison.

However their plan was scuppered when Ravi Gulati didn’t give the alibi as promised after his lover/step-mum Nina Gupta forced him to lie to make Suki look guilty.

Unbeknownst to the Panesars, it was actually Ravi who killed Ranveer and has made Suki believe that she had been responsible.

After the police released her from custody, protective son Kheerat decided to take the blame for the murder as he refused to let Suki be sent down.

He was then found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in jail.

Is Kheerat leaving EastEnders?

As he is locked up for life, Kheerat has indeed left Albert Square.

In fact it has been confirmed that actor Jaz Deol has quit the role.

A statement released by the BBC to Digital Spy read: ” “We can confirm that Jaz has left EastEnders and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

After his soap exit, Jaz took to Instagram to say goodbye to his on-screen family and girlfriend by sharing a montage of pictures with the caption: “Love you. love you all. X”
